How One-time commission work
When a referred customer makes their first purchase, the affiliate earns the defined commission. If the customer buys again tomorrow or subscribes for years, no additional commission is paid. One-time commissions are the default model in most e-commerce programs and some SaaS products.
Why it matters for your program
One-time commissions are simpler to manage and more predictable in cost. They make sense when customer LTV is low or when the margin does not support ongoing commission payments. The trade-off is reduced affiliate motivation — partners need to keep generating new referrals rather than earning passively from a stable customer base.
